Justin Piquette was taken in the 7th round of the 2003 OHL entry draft.  Early in his first full exhibition campaign Piquette displayed an interest for getting involved with the rough stuff.  He was involved with several fights in the pre-season schedule all in the second period to avoid suspensions.  At the start of the season Justin was regularly getting involved in the fisticuffs, but didn't have much luck in terms of winning those battles.  About one-third of the way into the season Piquette had worked on and improved his technic so sufficiently that he was no longer an easy target.  Piquette obvious has the reach as well as the will to become a strong middleweight candidate in the OHL.

His skating might be his greatest asset on the ice.  Justin Piquette earned a roster spot over Anthony Pototschnik who also had a strong camp, but was a full year older.  Piquette's biggest weakness has to be his puck sense.  He often handles the puck more like a hot potato, simply sending it forward instead creating something offensive.  It's an adjustment that Justin has struggled with, reffering to the speed of action in the OHL.

Midway through the season, Piquette was dispatched to the Elmira Sugar Kings where he's expected to thrive on a solid Jr. B team that can better accomodate his offensive development through improved ice time and the slightly slower pace of play.  There is no questioning Justin's willingness to play a team game, nor his potential to become a solid two-way OHL winger.

Piquette hails from Timmins, cities like Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury are like home ice for him.  Justin will find it to be a rather difficult uphill effort to return to the OHL ranks.
