Thomas Harrison is your textbook stay at home defender, a below average skater who has to keep his game simple to be effective.  Harrison struggled early in the 2002-'03 season with his increased responsibility patroling the Rangers' blueline, George Halkidis arrived on the scene and suddenly his ice time was reduced and he also lost his long time defence partner: TJ Eason, fortunately Thomas regained his comfort zone.  Having Matt Manias on his opposite side was extremely beneficial since Manias was more adapt at playing the puck out of  the Rangers' zone.

Thomas, an 11th round pick of the Kitchener Rangers from northern Ontario, was not given much of a chance to make the Rangers.  His size was desired, however his mobility could best be described as questionable.  Thomas improved his skating and surprised many when he made the team.  Harrison in his two seasons in the OHL has carved out a solid reputation as a fighter who isn't picky in terms of whom he'll drops his gloves with.  An injury to Marcus Smith during the third round of the OHL playoffs, put Harrison into a tough spot.  After receiving very minimal ice time in games prior to the third round, Harrison did receive some spot duty in some situations against the always dangerous Plymouth Whalers team, he responded very well to the pressure.

In Harrison's third season with the Rangers, he'll get some of that ice time that has illuded him to this point in his OHL career.  Steve Eminger, George Halkidis and his trusty partner: TJ Eason who had been ahead of Thomas on the Rangers' depth chart all are graduating.  In the 2003-'04 season Harrison might also become thought of as one of the league's most feared fighters.
