|Overager Situation becomes more
With only two games left in his lengthy 25 game suspension Rangers' GM traded tough guy: Mike Amodeo to the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds. The 'Hounds and Rangers swapped top import picks, in addition the Rangers picked up the Guelph Storm's 5th round pick in next year's entry draft. The trade clears up the overager situation in Kitchener, but also clears out both tough guys whom were suspended during last postseason. He was that close to a triumphant return to the Aud next Friday night and then suddenly just like that his last visit at the Aud is more than likely game two versus the Storm, that is unless the 'Hounds meet the Rangers in the postseason. The Greyhounds have finished their 2 visits to Kitchener, and there is only one game remaining up in the Soo where Mike Amodeo can faceoff against his former teammates.
Though Amodeo is a 'heart' player, his career in the OHL and just as likely with the Rangers will be best remembered for his run at Guelph netminder: Andrew Penner, the primary part of his much talked about 25 game suspension. Coincidentally Adam Keefe whom received a 10 game suspension in the same game for kicking at Guelph forward: Ryan Thompson - public enemy #1 in Kitchener going into the postseason for his sucker punch on Rangers' star: Derek Roy. Amodeo fell just short of leading the OHL in fighting majors last season, and regularly spent time on the Rangers checking unit last season, though he was versitile enough to play on just about any Rangers line and was especially tough to move from in front of the net.
Mike Amodeo was orginally drafted by the Rangers
in 1999 in the 5th round, now the Rangers are only left with 2 players
from that fabulous draft, 2nd rounder: Derek Roy and 8th round selection
Scott Dickie. Things don't get any easier for Amodeo in joining the
Greyhounds, he is walking into a situation similar to the one that he was
leaving in Kitchener since the Greyhounds have four overagers now, one
over the limit. Best of luck in Sault St. Marie Mike!
